CNPC USA is actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced engineer with expertise in completion tool design, testing, and product support. The selected candidate will hold a senior leadership position responsible for providing strategic direction, technical oversight, and mentorship to the mechanical engineering discipline. This role will play a critical part in shaping the organization’s engineering strategies, driving innovation, and ensuring excellence in project execution. 

This position reports directly to the R&D Manager of Completions and Stimulations.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide innovative and cost-effective solutions requiring development or sustaining new or improved techniques, procedures or products.
  • Develop new products according to customer requirements from concept study to final product qualification and support.
  • Assists in planning, conducting and evaluating approaches to meeting the project objectives in a timely fashion.
  • Produce analyses and mathematical models and draw design conclusions based on results.
  • Conduct or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, code and other artifacts.
  • Assign, direct and review work of others and provide guidance.
  • Author technical reports, papers, articles, patents and presentations.
  • Keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets.
  • Lead system integration efforts, collaborating with internal R&D teams to incorporate existing modules with newly developed in-house technologies.
  • Oversee tool testing and qualification, including lab validation, environmental testing, and reliability assessments, to ensure tool readiness for field deployment.
  • Support field trials and initial deployments, working closely with field personnel and customers to ensure successful operation and gather performance feedback.
  • Drive commercialization efforts, ensuring technical readiness and documentation for market release, while supporting product training and customer onboarding.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in developing or engineering HPHT downhole systems, preferably with tools temperature above 200°C and pressure of 10,000psi or above.
  • Knowledge of completion tools such as packers, safety valves, liner hangers, etc., preferred.
  • Detailed operational knowledge of oil and gas industry mechanical equipment and a sound knowledge of engineering, maintenance, and planning.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States of America.


Work Environment: 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 

Physical Demands: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing and the ability to lift 20lbs and bend is required.


Travel: 

This position requires some overnight international and domestic travel. Local travel between other CNPC USA locations and testing facilities is required.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, however, does act as a mentor and point of contact for all mechanical design engineers.
