What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator - Custom Metal Fabrication Shop position at CNC Fabricators?
We are a custom metal fabrication shop in Roanoke, VA, looking for an experienced Estimator to join our team. We are looking for an estimator to field incoming customer requests for quotes for various projects, large and small. The estimator needs an understanding of and experience in a metal fab shop, reads/interprets blueprints, input information into computer systems, communicates with customers effectively. Our day shift is operational Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM.
Key Responsibilities:
Accept incoming requests from customers to build a custom metal item. Review the material and labor requirements and formulate an estimate/quote for the company to build the item.
- Review incoming customer requests, drawings, specifications, and project requirements
- Determine the materials, processes, labor and outside services required for each project
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings and CAD drawings
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates and customer quotations
- Communicate with customers to clarify project details, requirements, and expectations
- Work closely with shop personnel to understand fabrication methods, capabilities, and production requirements
- Enter and maintain project and estimating information in computer systems
- Identify potential fabrication or estimating issues before a project is quoted
- Maintain organized records of estimates, drawings, pricing, and customer correspondence
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment
- Experience estimating custom fabrication projects is strongly preferred
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, fabrication drawings, and specifications
- Good understanding of common metal fabrication processes, materials, and shop practices
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn estimating/ERP software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with measurements, quantities, and pricing
- Ability to manage multiple quote requests and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
