Role Description:
The Press Operator is a full-time, on-site role based at CMYK PRINTING & GRAPHICS INC. in Memphis, TN. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring printing presses to produce high-quality printed materials according to job specifications. Day-to-day tasks include preparing press equipment, loading materials, performing test runs, and adjusting settings for color, registration, and alignment. The Press Operator inspects output for quality, identifies and resolves basic mechanical or process issues, and maintains a clean and safe work area. The role also involves collaborating with pre-press and finishing teams, following production schedules, and documenting work to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
Qualifications:
- Ability to operate and monitor printing machinery, with strong Machine Operation and Printing skills.
- Experience performing Quality Control checks on printed materials to ensure color accuracy, alignment, and overall print consistency.
- Skill in Troubleshooting press issues, including basic mechanical adjustments and process-related problems during production.
- Experience with Pre-press processes, such as reviewing job tickets, understanding layouts, and preparing materials before printing.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions, job specifications, and safety procedures.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, handle materials, and perform repetitive production tasks safely.
- Prior experience in commercial printing or manufacturing environments preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in printing or related fields is a plus.
Job Summary:
Sets up and runs customer printing jobs on Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74 2 color and 4 color Sheet Presses. Operates at a high level of production while achieving a low level of waste. Does large part of maintenance work on presses.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform all set up functions on press assigned, including but not limited to attaching plates, loading paper, filling proper ink, checking print quality, obtaining authorizations etc.
- Run job to obtain optimum press usage.
- Run job with little waste and error.
- Troubleshoot and fix tension, paper stock, press timing, and ink problems with little or no help depending on experience.
- Clean up press and work area after usage.
- Maintain printing quality throughout job.
- Do normal day to day maintenance to prevent unnecessary and costly breakdowns.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must be able to read and write in English.
- The employee is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers to feel objects.
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or even crawl.
- Frequently required to lift or move up to 50 lbs. Regularly required to lift or move up to 40 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required are close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Walks a great deal of time.
- Must be able to pick up and carry 40 to 50 lbs. at least 4 to 5 times per hour. Must be able to move 5 to 10 lbs., 21 to 25 times per hour.
- Operators very often get ink, dirt, and grease on hands and cloths.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be able to read, write, and do basic math.
