The Opportunity:
CMK is seeking a detail-oriented, smart and personable real estate accounting professional who is highly experienced and proficient in commercial real estate accounting, financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, forecasting and revenue management. The candidate may be hired at a staff accountant or senior accountant level based on experience. Key Responsibilities:
- Financial statement preparation and reporting for a commercial real estate investment portfolio consisting of multiple LLC’s: direct acquisitions and co-investments, development projects including medical office and net-leased retail properties.
- Analyze and monitor revenue and expense variances, intercompany account reconciliations, capital budgets, escrow schedules, debt coverage ratios, cash availability models and accounts receivable reports.
- Review construction budgets, investigate variances, approve expenses, ensure that construction billings are issued to clients and payments collected.
- Prepare and process construction draws.
- Prepare bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and job cost tracking.
- Enter invoices into accounting systems (QuickBooks Pro), issue purchase orders and pay vendors, subcontractors, and supplier bills.
- Assist with property and asset management to develop operating budgets and forecasts for all investment properties.
- Oversee the annual CAM reconciliation and approval process.
- Ensure all financial reporting/debt compliance requirements are met in a timely manner.
- Evaluate and implement improvements to existing software programs and technology tied to accounting functions.
- Maintain and improve internal controls related to record-keeping and reporting regulations and requirements. Ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is strongly preferred. CPA or professional real estate designations are a plus.
- Our ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of direct experience in real estate accounting for a development, investment, or property management company.
- Highly proficient in QuickBooks Pro, MS Excel and/or other relevant accounting and property management software.
- Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, organized & process-oriented in nature with an ability to manage multiple projects and tasks to meet critical deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, be resourceful and make appropriate decisions without specific direction.
