What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Technician position at CMEC, PC?
Position Summary:
The Field Technician will be responsible for in-the-field testing of soil, concrete and other construction materials. No experience is necessary, but construction experience is preferred. We will provide on the job training and future construction materials testing certification possibilities. A company vehicle will be provided to travel to job sites in the area. Minimal to no overnight travel. If you have a good work ethic, reliable and can cooperate with co-workers and clients respectfully, this is a great long-term opportunity for you.
Skills:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Ability to work outdoors every day in various weather conditions
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas
- Must be able to work independently and within teams to achieve goals
- Must be detail oriented
- Must be able to walk and stand continuously throughout the day
- Requires a valid, clean driver’s license, as travel to job sites is required
- Must continue to maintain a safe driving record and valid driver’s license to fulfill travel requirements of this position
- Ability to read and interpret simple plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to lift 30-40 lbs
Job Responsibilities:
- Travel to various jobs sites in a company provided vehicle
- Perform routine field and/or laboratory test including field compaction testing, sampling and observation of soils, stone and asphalt, utilizing nuclear density gauges and drive tube methods
- Performs concrete, grout, and masonry quality control tests through sampling and visual observation, performing slump tests and collecting compressive and flexural strength
- Sampling of asphalt cores to verify thickness
- Perform hand augers with dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) testing to collect data of subsurface conditions for foundations, roadways and other surfaces
- Document accurate and detailed daily field activity and/or diagrams and report the findings to company supervisors
- Daily communication with site contractors, other technicians and project managers
