Position Overview: The Sterile Processing Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of instrument reprocessing functions within the facility. This role includes managing staff, ensuring compliance with decontamination and sterilization protocols, and collaborating with various departments to maintain high standards of patient care and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversight of Instrument Reprocessing: Ensure effective management of all reprocessing functions for surgical instruments.
- Error Management: Respond to and rectify SPD-related errors at facilities.
- Daily Operations: Implement and monitor daily checklists for decontamination, assembly, and sterilization processes.
- Equipment Reporting: Submit and report work tickets for equipment malfunctions to SPD and Perioperative Services leadership.
- Staff Management: Oversee staff scheduling, assignments, PTO, and on-call duties, while tracking agency staff hours and submitting for payment.
- Staff Scheduling: Update staff and agency hours in department, validate hours, and respond to payroll requests.
- Recruitment and Training: Participate in interviewing, hiring, and disciplinary meetings, and ensure employee files are up to date with necessary documentation.
- Leadership Communication: Conduct bi-weekly status checks with SPD and Perioperative leadership and engage in daily rounding with the SPD Director.
- Meeting Participation: Attend facility meetings as required and hold weekly meetings with CNIIs from Stroger and Provident Operating Rooms.
- Reporting: Provide KPI metrics and reports to Infection Control, quality teams, and leadership as outlined in the “Reports and KPI” section.
- eMers Management: Enter and respond to eMers reports within 48 hours per policy.
- Instrument Logistics: Develop and manage processes for the pick-up and delivery of instruments at Stroger, Provident, and Ambulatory clinics in collaboration with department leaders.
- Productivity Analysis: Prepare weekly and monthly staff productivity reports, sharing insights with SPD and Perioperative leadership.
- Process Knowledge: Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of decontamination and sterilization processes; serve as a resource for staff in Sterile Processing & Distribution, Operating Rooms, and ambulatory clinics.
- Staff Training: Educate and train staff on all SPD processes and activities.
- Department Productivity: Schedule and maintain department productivity to ensure necessary services are provided.
- Compliance and Training: Attend Employment Plan training and stay updated with processes and policies.
- Performance Tracking: Monitor absences, FMLA, and performance issues, working with leadership to implement appropriate educational or disciplinary measures.
- On-Call Responsibilities: Rotate weekend and holiday on-call duties with shift supervisors at Stroger.
- Communication: Keep abreast of communications and relay relevant information to staff as directed by leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Operations or related field.
- Work Experience Minimum Five (5) years of progressively responsible lead work, supervisory, or management
- experience in Sterile Processing or Surgical Services.
- Preferred Seven (7) years of experience managing a Sterile Processing department and/or materials/inventory management department.
- EPIC/Healthlink Experience.
