About the Role
A well-established and growing general engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its team. This organization specializes in complex infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, water storage facilities, and other water resource/recovery projects. The company self-performs structural concrete, piping, mechanical equipment installation, and electrical work. Key Responsibilities
- Interpret specifications, drawings, and bid documents to determine scope and estimate requirements.
- Perform accurate quantity take-offs for multiple work disciplines using established methods.
- Research and resolve pre-bid issues with vendors, clients, and internal team members.
- Apply technical expertise, historical data, and productivity analysis to develop complete project cost estimates.
- Evaluate project risk factors and adjust estimates accordingly.
- Collaborate with the estimating team, vendors, and clients to identify safe, productive, and high-quality work approaches.
- Solicit bids from vendors and subcontractors; maintain communication throughout the estimating process.
- Prepare preliminary construction schedules, considering material and equipment lead times.
- Lead bid review meetings and coordinate pre-bid activities.
- Research potential projects, attend pre-bid meetings, and work closely with management.
- Perform additional preconstruction assignments as directed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 3 years of experience estimating in the construction industry, with strong knowledge of structural concrete, piping, and mechanical systems.
- Experience with water/wastewater treatment facilities and related infrastructure strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in unit cost analysis and subcontractor proposal evaluation.
- Familiarity with alternative delivery methods of contracting.
- Experience with HCSS HeavyBid estimating software.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Primavera P6, and Bluebeam.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Leadership skills for pursuing large and complex project estimates.
Salary : $130,000 - $180,000
