TEMPORARY MATRIMONIAL ATTORNEY – NASSAU COUNTY (Immediate Opening, Short-Term Engagement)Location: Nassau County, New York (Hybrid / In-Person Court Appearances Required)Duration: Approximately 3 months, with possibility of extension depending on settlementPosition OverviewA solo practitioner seeks an experienced New York matrimonial attorney to serve as temporary co-counsel in an active divorce proceeding pending before the Supreme Court, Nassau County. The case is already in motion with ongoing applications, procedural deadlines, and scheduled court activity before Hon. Edmond Dane. This position requires immediate availability, strong procedural instincts, and the ability to provide efficient, reliable support.The ideal candidate is seasoned, detail-oriented, and familiar with the culture and workflow of Nassau County matrimonial parts. Professional communication, courtroom intuition, and dependable follow-through are essential. This role is particularly suitable for a retired or semi-retired attorney who is sharp, organized, and prepared—not overextended.Key ResponsibilitiesServe as temporary co-counsel in an active matrimonial matter before Justice Edmond Dane.Advise on procedural strategy, motion practice, and compliance with CPLR and local rules.Communicate effectively and professionally with chambers and the assigned law clerk.Review, refine, and provide strategic guidance on motion papers and filings prepared by the principal attorney.Attend conferences or court appearances as required; prepare for oral argument and courtroom presentation.Maintain consistent preparation and active awareness of the case timeline and developments.Proactively engage in settlement negotiations, including initiating discussions with uncooperative or delay-driven opposing counsel.Provide candid, practical litigation insight, and help move the case toward efficient resolution.Offer input regarding development of a matrimonial practice within a solo firm if the collaboration continues.Required QualificationsAdmission to the New York State Bar in good standing.Minimum 10 years of experience in matrimonial and family law.Strong familiarity with Nassau County Supreme Court, particularly matrimonial parts; prior experience before Justice Edmond Dane is highly preferred.Demonstrated mastery of matrimonial motion practice, CPLR procedures, and case management.Excellent written and oral advocacy skills; ability to communicate firmly and professionally in adversarial settings.Ability to start immediately and commit to the next 3 months (or until earlier settlement).Preferred BackgroundRetired or semi-retired matrimonial practitioner with extensive courtroom and settlement experience, able to dedicate sufficient time to preparation and timely execution of tasks.Former court attorney, matrimonial referee, or long-standing Nassau County family law practitioner with deep familiarity with local court expectations.Attorney with a proven ability to manage difficult adversaries, overcome stalling tactics, and drive cases toward productive resolution.A practitioner who is not overloaded with other cases, and who can remain fully engaged, prepared, and responsive throughout this assignment.Key CompetenciesStrong procedural intuition and thorough understanding of matrimonial practice.Efficiency, organization, and consistent case awareness.Confidence and diplomacy in initiating and navigating settlement negotiations.Ability to work collaboratively, quickly, and accurately.CompensationCompetitive hourly rate or project-based structure, commensurate with experience.Flexible arrangement tailored to workload and availability.How to ApplyInterested candidates should submit:A brief cover letter summarizing relevant matrimonial and Nassau County experience;Resume/CV;Confirmation of immediate availability.
