The Elementary School Library Media Specialist fosters a love of reading, supports literacy development, and empowers students to become effective users of information and technology. This role involves collaborating with teachers, managing the school library program, and providing instruction in information literacy, digital citizenship, and research skills.
Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Curate and maintain a diverse, developmentally appropriate library collection.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library and information skills into classroom instruction.
- Provide direct instruction in research strategies, technology tools, and digital literacy.
- Promote reading through programs, events, and individual guidance.
- Manage library operations, including circulation, cataloging, and budgeting.
- Support students and staff in the use of digital resources and educational technology.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment within the library.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications include, but are not limited to:
- Valid New York State Library Media Specialist Certification (or pending certification).
- Strong knowledge of children’s literature, educational technology, and instructional practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Job Tasks:

- Organize, catalog, and manage the circulation of library materials.

- Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend tools that enhance learning.
- Foster a love of reading through book talks, author visits, reading challenges, and special events.
