Job Summary
A Lab Courier is responsible for transporting medical specimens, laboratory materials, equipment, and documents between healthcare facilities, diagnostic labs, and hospitals. This role is essential for ensuring timely and safe delivery of specimens, supporting laboratory operations, and maintaining the integrity of sensitive materials. Attention to detail, time management, and adherence to safety and biohazard regulations are crucial aspects of the job.
Responsibilities
- Pick up and drop off lab specimens, supplies, and documents between designated locations
- Handle medical specimens with care to avoid contamination or damage, adhering to biohazard protocols.
- Ensure timely delivery to avoid compromising the integrity of time-sensitive samples.
- Deliver and retrieve medical supplies, documents, and laboratory equipment to and from designated locations.
- Maintain logs of deliveries and pickups for tracking purposes
- Maintain timely routes and accurate chain-of-custody handling as needed
- Follow strict safety, confidentiality, and infection control policies, including handling biohazard materials.
- Adhere to all transportation and regulatory guidelines concerning the handling and storage of medical specimens.
- Maintain knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA) regarding specimen transport.
- Ensure proper labeling and documentation for all transported specimens and supplies.
- Complete and maintain accurate delivery logs, tracking sheets, and other required paperwork.
- Report any issues with the vehicle promptly and schedule maintenance as needed.
- Provide courteous and professional service when interacting with healthcare personnel and lab staff.
- Communicate effectively with lab supervisors and dispatchers to ensure smooth coordination of deliveries.
- Travel to all CLS Health locations
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Prior experience in medical or lab courier services preferred but not required.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must have own reliable vehicle
- Biohazard and safety training may be required.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Good communication and customer service abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation and basic vehicle maintenance.
