Job Summary: The c-store assistant is responsible for both food sales and general store sales. This includes preparing and replenishing ready-to-eat food products for daily offerings, ensuring food quality, freshness, and compliance with food safety standards. The role also involves maintaining cleanliness in food-prep and customer-facing areas, managing food-service items, and organizing products for easy access. In addition, the clerk will assist customers with bulk product sales, process transactions, and handle orders for pickup and shipment. The position requires answering customer inquiries, addressing concerns, and ensuring efficient order fulfillment to provide an excellent customer experience.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, customer-focused, and have a strong attention to detail. A positive attitude and the ability to multitask are essential. Someone who enjoys working with both food and retail products, has excellent communication skills, and is committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety will thrive in this role.
Work Environment: 100% of work is conducted in a public store setting, involving time spent on a computer, on the phone, preparing food, stocking shelves, and interacting with customers.

Schedule: Core business hours are Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm. Evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required occasionally to cover special events.
Primary Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Replenishment: Prepare and replenish ready-to-eat food products for daily lunch offerings, ensuring food quality, freshness, and compliance with food safety standards. Follow food safety regulations and safe handling practices during preparation, packaging, and storage, ensuring that all ready-to-eat products meet health standards and ensure product quality. Regularly check and maintain food temperature logs. Replenish food service items, including plates, takeout containers, napkins, condiments, cutlery, and other dining accessories, ensuring smooth and quick customer experiences. Label and organize food products for easy access and display, ensuring accurate product information is available for customers.
Cleanliness: Perform general cleaning tasks, including mopping floors, wiping down surfaces, and maintaining the cleanliness of food prep areas, customer-facing areas, and restrooms. Ensure that work areas are kept clean and organized.
Product Handling & Customer Service: Replenish floor stock of saleable items in the store, ensuring shelves are neatly stocked and items are properly labeled. Provide excellent customer service, assisting customers in selecting and purchasing products and answering product-related questions. Process transactions efficiently, handling cash, credit cards, and other payment methods accurately at the register. Answer phones and respond to customer inquiries, addressing questions, concerns, and providing product information in a helpful and friendly manner. Take orders for pickup and shipment, ensuring accuracy and timely processing. Provide customers with necessary details such as order pricing, availability, and delivery timelines.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic math skills and the ability to operate a cash register.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and courteously with the public.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as stocking shelves, preparing food, and cleaning.
- Good organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize a variety of tasks throughout the day.
- Ability to speak English fluently to communicate effectively with customers and team members.
Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements:
- Regular visits to food preparation and storage areas will involve exposure to machinery, high noise levels, varying temperatures, humidity, and wet conditions.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, stretch, stoop, and bend for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around ingredients and/or finished products containing food allergens.
- Must be able to communicate through various channels, including phone, email, and face-to-face with the general public and maintain professionalism.
