What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sanitation Technician position at CLOVERDALE FOODS CO?
Job Summary:
The Sanitation Technician is responsible for the Food Safety and Sanitation needs of the entire Cloverdale facility. Position requires self-motivation, the ability to perform with little or no direction while following established SOPs, Good Manufacturing Practices, and all Safety related Rules, Regulations, and Company Policies. Sanitation employees may work in adverse environments such as: dusty areas, cold, heat, extremely filthy areas, confined spaces as well as many others. Sanitation employees must be able to follow the direction of the Sanitation Line Lead, Sanitation Foreman, and the Sanitation Supervisor.
Qualifications:Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for plant sanitation and food safety requirements.
- Cleaning and sanitation for multiple production lines and non-production areas per the Master Sanitation Schedule with particular attention to Lock Out/Tag Out requirements.
- Responsible for documenting sanitation activities, as required.
- Participate in safety, plant, and department meetings.
- Performs other related duties and assignments as required.
- May be required to drive forklift and scissor lift as necessary.
- Operate powered cleaning equipment- power washer, blowers, floor scrubber(s) and other equipment as necessary.
- Learn and follow safety procedures for all equipment and report all incidents regardless of size.
- Cleans trollies, tanks, lines, conveyers, ceiling, floors, walls, and other areas, and all types of equipment as assigned.
- Dismantle hoses, connections, clamps, pumps, lines or pipes and clean per SOP.
- Reassembles equipment, lines, pumps, connections and systems per SOP.
- Operates foaming equipment and high-pressure washing systems.
- Handles cleaning chemicals according to MSDS and safe handling procedures
- Use all proper cleaning procedures so that it meets with both Cloverdale and USDA standards.
- Clean and sanitize food processing equipment.
- Assist in reassembling equipment when necessary.
- Monitor and document chemical concentrations to ensure proper cleaning of equipment.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Visually inspects all parts of equipment for cleanliness and residue.
- Utilizes push broom, squeegee or mop to sweep and clean floors and remove standing water.
- Cleans debris from floor area and disposes of properly.
- Prepares machines, tanks, trollies, metal detectors and other components as necessary for Production needs.
- Clean assigned area by collecting trash, including boxes, plastic, packets, damaged materials, etc.…
- Cleaning other areas as assigned.
- Cross train other sanitation department areas.
- Operate equipment in a safe manner following GMP and Plant Safety guidelines and keeps work area audit ready.

Key Technical Knowledge and Functional Skills:

Physical Requirements:
- Sufficient mobility, strength, flexibility, hearing, and sight to access all job relevant areas and perform routine activities as necessary to deliver required results.
- Some pushing/pulling, bending/stooping, and lifting (up to 70 lbs.) necessary.
- Ability to climb ladders and not be afraid of heights
- Ability to withstand varied environmental conditions, such as cold and heat, extreme wet, humidity, within closed surroundings.
- Will work in cold, damp environments; will work in warm, damp environments.
- Production rooms are climate controlled when cleaning them: 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Will wear PPE, bumper hat, and chemical gear while performing job roles.
- Occasional work assignments in temperatures as below as 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Position requires frequent lifting, standing, reaching, climbing, pulling, stooping, bending, and kneeling.
- Maintain constant mental focus and constantly be aware of surroundings.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- One (1) year experience working in a processing facility or similar responsibilities preferred but not required.
- Sanitation experience in a food processing plant preferred but not required.
- Ability to read chemical labels and follow safe handling procedures for all chemicals used in cleaning activities.
- Motivation and strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible.
