What are the responsibilities and job description for the Basic Electrical Instructor position at Clover Park Technical College?

The Basic Electrical Instructor delivers hands-on and theoretical instruction in foundational electrical concepts including electricians’ math and residential wiring practices to support student entry into construction trades, electrical apprenticeships, or related fields. This position supports the college's mission by preparing students for high-demand careers through workforce focused training in technical education programs.

While the full salary range for this position is listed, please note that we don’t typically hire near the top of the range unless based on knowledge, skills and abilities and internal equity.

This position's duties are performed in person on our Eastside Tacoma campus.
This position is represented by the Clover Park Federation of Teachers, Local 3913, AFT/ AFT Washington.Duty: Curriculum Design & Curriculum Delivery 
Tasks include: 
  • Teach AC & DC electrical theory, math for electricians, basic residential wiring, and safety fundamentals using multiple modalities to state apprenticeship standards.
Duty: Lab Management 
Tasks include: 
  • Maintain lab safety, inventory equipment and tools, ensure proper function of training panels, and enforce safe work practices.
Duty: Industry Engagement 
Tasks include: 
  • Collaborate with advisory committee members, industry partners, and apprenticeship programs to ensure curriculum relevance.
Duty: Program Support 
Tasks include: 
  • Attending outreach events, program planning meetings, run program information sessions and orientations.
  • Journey-level or Master Electrician license or equivalent experience in electrical work 
  • Three (3) years of industry experience in residential or commercial electrical work 
  • Demonstrated ability to teach or train others 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Commitment to student success, equity, and inclusive teaching practices
  • 01, 02, 06 Electrical License 
  • Experience in technical education or teaching in community college or apprenticeship settings 
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) 
  • OSHA 10/30 certification or experience delivering safety training

Our History

Clover Park Technical College is located in Lakewood, Washington. Our college has a rich history of professional and technical education dating back to the 1940s, when Clover Park School District established a War Production program, training civilians as auto mechanics, aircraft-service mechanics, ship-fitters, welders and blueprint readers. Now, CPTC offers more than forty programs in Aerospace, Advanced Manufacturing, Health Sciences, Human Services, Business, Hospitality, Science Technology, Engineering, Transportation and Trades. CPTC has two campuses: Our main campus is located in Lakewood, WA and our South Hill Campus is located in Puyallup, WA.
