Center Aide Floater

Primary Role: To ensure continuity of care by planning and implementing daily activities for assigned children. This role involves performing other job-related tasks as requested by the Education Supervisor and/or the Director, and assumes full responsibility of the classroom in the absence of the Teacher/Caregiver. This position directly relates to teaching, learning, and direct child care and supervision in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards, Birth-to-Five Childcare standards, and State Licensing. The Center Aide Floater services all of the agency’s Early Learning sites.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assume full responsibility for the classroom in the absence of the Teacher/Caregiver.
• Assist with planning and implementing activities, including meals, field trips, and rest time.
• Actively supervise children during meals, indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring safety and engagement.
• Assist with diaper changing and toilet training as needed.
• Use soothing techniques to comfort children, fostering emotional growth and development.
• Adhere to safety and universal precautions at all times.
• Assist with the cleanliness, organization, and aesthetic appearance of the classroom and restroom.
• Ensure the playground is free of hazards before allowing children to play.
• Maintain appropriate contact and communication with parents regarding children’s progress and activities.
• Attend required meetings and conferences as directed by the supervisor or Director.
• Ensure accurate, complete, and timely collection and submission of participant information for ChildPlus and Teaching Strategies Gold.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Education Supervisor or Director.

Required Skills and Expectations:

• Understanding and application of early childhood developmental practices and standards.
• Knowledge of center-based day care state regulations and children's nutrition and health.
• Ability to communicate effectively and harmoniously with children, staff, parents, and volunteers.
• Understanding of social dynamics such as poverty, oppression, and racism, and their impact on children and families.
• Experience working with diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Skills in engaging and motivating program participants towards self-sufficiency.
• Advocacy for program participants’ growth and development.
• Commitment to a strengths-based, empowerment-focused approach in line with the organization’s values.

Educational Requirements:

• Child Development Associate (CDA w/infant and toddler endorsement) preferred.
• High school diploma and/or GED required; must acquire a CDA within the first year of employment.
• One year of experience working in an Early Childhood Environment with children ages 6 weeks to 2 years.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

• Ability to operate office equipment (computer, printer, etc.).
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, and lift up to 10 pounds.
• Effective communication in Standard English, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work cooperatively and respond positively to supervision.
• Must have reliable transportation.

Performance Metrics:

• Classroom Management:
• Ensure a 90% satisfaction rate from parents and staff regarding classroom management and child engagement during observations.
• Compliance:
• Maintain 100% compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and state licensing regulations during reviews and audits.
• Data Accuracy:
• Achieve a 95% accuracy rate in the timely collection and submission of participant information for ChildPlus and Teaching Strategies Gold.
• Supervision Quality:
• Receive feedback from teachers and supervisors indicating at least 85% effective supervision of children during activities.
• Professional Development:
• Complete required training hours and maintain certifications (e.g., Pediatric First Aid, CPR) within specified time frames.
