Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories, to determine immediate and ongoing healthcare needs.
- Administer medications and injections accurately, following prescribed protocols while monitoring for adverse reactions.
- Manage acute pain and chronic conditions through evidence-based interventions, including wound suturing and IV infusion therapies.
- Perform specialized procedures such as catheterization, ostomy care, and sterile dressing changes using aseptic techniques.
- Document all patient interactions meticulously within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for case management, discharge planning, and referrals to specialty services such as ophthalmology or hospice & palliative medicine.
- Respond promptly to emergencies by providing critical care interventions in line with Level I and Level II trauma center standards, including airway management and ventilator support.
Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice with current CPR/BLS certification.
- Demonstrated experience in correctional health settings or similar high-acuity environments such as hospitals or trauma centers.
- Proficiency in advanced nursing skills including IV insertion, phlebotomy, suturing, and laboratory specimen collection/processing.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; experience with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding is preferred.
- Knowledge of infectious disease control practices and infection prevention protocols within confined settings.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including individuals with developmental disabilities or memory care needs.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, physiology, pharmacology, and emergency response procedures.
- Excellent communication skills for patient assessment documentation and collaboration with healthcare teams.
