Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Review prescription orders to identify medications requiring prior authorization.
- Initiate and submit prior authorization requests by collecting and verifying patient information.
- Liaise with healthcare providers and insurance companies to ensure accurate and timely processing of requests.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and insurers, offering guidance and addressing concerns.
- Educate patients on the prior authorization process as needed.
- Respond to team members questions regarding processes and guidance on how to complete prior authorizations.
- Manage real-time clinic chats, addressing any prior authorization-related queries and ensuring seamless communication. Handle escalations timely.
- Monitor and manage prescription queues to ensure timely processing during Team Lead’s absence and as needed.
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives and provide feedback to enhance operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of prior authorization activities, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and data protection protocols.
- Stay updated on insurance policies and regulatory changes affecting prior authorization processes.
- Train new hires post initial classroom training. Retraining team members as needed.
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by an accredited certifying body. (preferred)
- In-depth knowledge of pharmaceuticals, medical terminology, and the prior authorization process.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies.
- Excellent organizational abilities to manage prior authorization requests and clinic chats efficiently.
- Proficiency in using relevant software and systems for prior authorization submissions and documentation.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in completing prior authorization forms and related paperwork.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Commitment to patient care and ensuring medication access through the prior authorization process.
