Sr. GitLab Engineer – Local to TX | Open to W2 & C2C | Hybrid Dallas (3 days onsite)
12-Month Contract (Likely Extensions) | $70/hr
A highly experienced Sr. GitLab/DevOps Engineer with 8 years in Platform Engineering and Enterprise DevOps, specializing in large-scale CI/CD modernization, GitLab administration, and migration from legacy tooling. Strong expertise in GitLab CI/CD, GitLab Runners, Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, Docker/Podman, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure). Proven ability to lead cross-team initiatives, build scalable automation frameworks, and deliver secure, production-ready delivery pipelines.
Core Expertise- 8 years DevOps/Platform Engineering experience
- 3 years hands-on GitLab CI/CD, GitLab Runner administration, and enterprise GitLab hardening (SAML/SSO, LDAP, RBAC, backup/restore)
- Strong scripting: Bash, Python, Go
- IaC: Terraform, Ansible, GitOps workflows
- Containers: Docker → Podman/Buildah, image signing, scanning, registries
- Kubernetes orchestration & cloud-native tooling
- SCM: GitLab, Bitbucket, Git, SVN; Artifact Mgmt: JFrog Artifactory
- Experience with Jenkins, Automic, Puppet, Chef, Bamboo, Maven, Ant
- Lead end-to-end migration from Jenkins/Automic to GitLab CI/CD
- Redesign pipelines using GitLab YAML best practices, templates, includes, DAGs, multi-stage workflows, conditional rules
- Configure and scale GitLab Runners, Groups, Projects, permissions, access policies
- Translate Jenkins freestyle/scripted pipelines into GitLab CI workflows
- Build Podman/Buildah-based CI templates and migrate Docker build/deploy processes
- Integrate SAST/DAST, container scanning, artifact signing, and quality gates
- Optimize pipelines using caching, parallelization, artifact reuse, and pipeline decomposition
- Use Terraform/Ansible to provision self-hosted GitLab and GitLab Runner infrastructure
- Implement GitOps for environment and infrastructure configs
- Migrate Automic jobs/workflows to GitLab with proper scheduling and dependencies
- Develop runbooks, wiki docs, GitLab templates, and onboarding guides
- Conduct brown-bags and training sessions to scale GitLab adoption
- Implement monitoring (Prometheus/Grafana/ELK) for GitLab performance & reliability
- Troubleshoot CI/CD issues and support enterprise-scale modernization initiatives
- Establish security guardrails, compliance checks, and policy enforcement in GitLab
- BS in CS or related field
- GitLab Certified CI/CD Specialist or GitLab Admin
- Contributions to GitLab or similar open-source DevOps tooling
- Strong experience with Agile, CI/CD best practices, and release engineering
