Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Compounding Pharmacist to join our team as Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience preparing sterile medications, managing pharmacy operations, and ensuring full regulatory compliance. Experience with the setup or optimization of sterile compounding labs is highly recommended. Strong people management skills are preferred to effectively lead pharmacy staff and maintain a high-performance team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), overseeing all sterile compounding operations and maintaining regulatory compliance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy and USP <797>/<800> standards.
- Prepare and compound sterile products, including IV solutions, in accordance with USP <797>, USP <800>, and company protocols.
- Maintain sterility and accuracy during all compounding processes within a cleanroom environment.
- Verify compounded prescriptions and ensure proper labeling, documentation, and patient safety standards are met.
- Manage and oversee cleanroom maintenance, inventory controls, staff training, and compliance audits.
- Conduct and oversee quality assurance activities, including environmental monitoring and sterility testing.
- Support the planning, setup, and optimization of sterile compounding laboratories as needed.
- Lead, mentor, and develop pharmacy technicians and other support staff to achieve operational excellence.
- Collaborate with pharmacy technicians and healthcare professionals to support patient care initiatives.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development, including maintaining compliance with sterile compounding best practices.
Qualifications:
- PharmD degree or equivalent from an accredited school of pharmacy.
- Active Pharmacist license in Texas (in good standing).
- Minimum 3 years of sterile compounding experience (hospital, specialty pharmacy, or compounding pharmacy experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge and working experience with USP <797> and USP <800> standards.
- Experience in building, setting up, or optimizing sterile labs is highly recommended.
- 20-hour ACPE-accredited Sterile Compounding Certification required (or willingness to complete prior to start date).
- Prior Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) experience preferred; candidates must meet Texas Board of Pharmacy PIC eligibility requirements.
- Strong leadership skills with a preference for candidates who have prior people management experience.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to maintaining sterile technique.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and supervise pharmacy technicians effectively.
- Willingness to obtain pharmacist licensure in additional states if required.
