- Use all available resources to assure that each student receives the best education possible.
- Provide activities to address the needs of at-risk students as well as the general population.
- Serve as liaison between home and school, promote cooperation between the home and school through personal, telephone and mail contacts and provide transportation for child and/or parent, as needed, to enhance the student’s education.
- Facilitate small groups and provide individual intervention; conduct structured, goal-oriented individual and group sessions (topics/issues may include social skills, problem-dynamics, decision-making, health/safety, abuse/neglect, among others); develop programs and resources to meet identified needs of all students and attend to crisis situations.
- Assist in drop-out prevention; monitor and track students’ daily attendance; notify parents of attendance policy; encourage compliance and offer suggestions/strategies to overcome barriers; respond to teacher, administrator and parent referrals regarding academic/behavioral concerns and collaborate with parents, teacher and/or student to improve academic success.
- Consult with parents, teachers and staff to aid in meeting the social, emotional, physical and academic needs of the students; participate in staffing/IEPs; initiate meetings with parents, teachers and/or students; provide parenting information and provide teachers with resources and strategies, as needed.
- Network with community agencies; local individuals and/or organizations, juvenile office and Division of Family Services; collaborate to promote community cohesiveness through community-wide programs and school activities; conduct workshops; make public presentations, develop literature and assist with public education efforts; provide the general public with information regarding school programs and policies relevant to the social work program.
- Refer parents and/or students to outside agencies/organizations as needed; link parents and/or students to outside resources, goods and services to meet emotional, physical, psychological and social needs; serve as an advocate to identify gaps in services; increase resource availability and accessibility; promote the development of new resources to ensure that identified needs are met.
- Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.
- Become familiar with, enforce and follow all Board policies, regulations, administrative procedures, other directions given by District administrators and state and federal laws as they affect the performance of job duties.
- Maintain communication and a working relationship with members of the staff and central office staff.
- Work cooperatively with the directors, district coordinators, and administrators in the supervision and coordination of the respective programs.
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Building Principal or Assistant Principal.
