What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resource Conservationist position at Clinton County Soil & Water Conservation District?
The Clinton County Soil and Water Conservation District is seeking a full time (30-40 hours depending on candidate
availability) individual to fill a Resource Conservationist position. Ideal candidate must have the ability or willingness to
learn how to communicate across all levels; relay technical information in an understandable format; be organized; accept
responsibility; work independently; and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate must be
proficient in Microsoft Office, and ideally working knowledge or experience with GIS. This position requires regular
exertion due to conservation work, such as walking on rough terrain and climbing steep banks, field surveying,
engineering design layouts, construction monitoring, and inspection of completed conservation practices. Knowledge of
both natural resources and conservation management practices is preferred. Natural resource related field experience is
desired. A strong conservation background and a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, conservation or a related field are
strongly preferred. Resource Conservationist Responsibilities:
- Promote and administer conservation programs available through IDOA, NRCS, and FSA.
- Provide information on the kind of assistance available from SWCD, NRCS and other USDA agencies.
- Provide conservation assistance through planning, surveying, designing, and reporting of conservation practices
under the guidelines of the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
- Prepare detailed Natural Resource Inventory Reports and participate in District programs.
- Assists with conducting engineer surveys to design mechanical practices to be utilized in conservation planning.
- Advise clients on eligibility prerequisites and conditions that must be satisfied to qualify for program acceptance
and payments.
- Attending regular SWCD, NRCS, and other local land use related committee meetings, trainings, and events,
- Work together with the Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA), the Association of Illinois Soil and Water
Conservation Districts (AISWCD), and the Clinton County Board of Directors to prepare reports and respond to
correspondence as requested by Bureau of Land and Water Resources (BLWR) , AISWCD, NRCS, National
Association of Conservation Districts (NACD), or any other cooperating agencies and/or individuals
This is a full-time position with annual cost of living salary increase, 15 days of vacation, 13 Federal Holidays, USDA
early release hours, 3 personal days, 13 sick days, parental/family leave, employer paid long-term and short-term
disability insurance, life insurance, health insurance, optional dental, vision and a 457b retirement plan with a 5%
employer contribution. Sign-on bonus of $2,000 for candidates who can start by June 28. Local and overnight travel will
be required 2-3 times a year for training, professional development and outreach. Salary is based off experience and
education with base pay of $40,000-$50,000 with $2,000 Level 1 Planner Bonus, $3,000 Level 2 Planner Bonus and
$5,000 Level 3 Planner Bonus within a 3-year timeframe. A valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance is
