CLASSIFICATION: Certified or Classified dependent upon qualifications of the person holding this position
FLSA STATUS: Exempt or Non-Exempt dependent upon qualifications of the person holding this position
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as reviewed and established annually by the Board of Education
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated regularly in accordance with the Board’s policy on the evaluation of coaching staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Learns and adheres to the coaching philosophy and program of the head coach.
- Carries out the responsibilities of the head coach.
- Explains and distributes literature to all athletes concerning the Athletic Commitment and the protecting of student eligibility.
- Schedules and organizes daily practices with the idea of developing the athlete’s greatest potential.
- Teaches athletes the fundamental skills, theory, and strategy of the sport.
- Teaches the athletes the value of good conduct, sportsmanship, and good citizenship.
- Provides supervision of athletes at all times and applies discipline in a firm productive manner.
- Teaches and emphasizes safe procedures to the athletes.
- Implements proper out-of-season training as needed in accordance with MSHSAA guidelines.
- Provides stimulus in practices to maintain enthusiasm and competitive attitudes.
EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES
- Assumes responsibility for care of equipment and facilities being used.
- Arranges for systematic and accountable measures for the issuance, return, and maintenance of equipment.
- Ensures that all equipment is cleaned, repaired, and stored properly at the end of the season.
- Maintains an accurate inventory that shows purchase date, quantity, type, and location of storage on all equipment.
- Organizes practices and workouts in a manner that provides proper care for all school facilities.
- Makes recommendations to administrators concerning needed equipment or repairs to facilities.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Enforces the district athletic philosophy, regulations, and policies.
- Attends MSHSAA rules meetings and informs assistants of changes in rules.
- Has knowledge and keeps current on rules and regulations regarding assigned sport and in accordance with MSHSAA.
- Keeps abreast of new knowledge and innovative ideas and techniques by attending clinics, workshops, or other methods.
- Registers and maintains records on all athletes and provides information to athletic office.
- Assures possession of a copy of each student’s current physical before allowing the student to participate.
- Assures that a copy of the student’s commitment form is on file in the athletic office before allowing the student to compete.
- Coordinates and maintains practices and game procedures for the season with assistants.
- Conducts a parent meeting to provide information on game times, bus schedules, and practice times to parents and athletes.
- Maintains written practice plans for each practice.
- Submits score books, records of individual accomplishments, and team accomplishments to the athletic office at the end of each season.
- Provides information and scores to the local media in a positive and cooperative manner.
- Conducts self as a personal example of positive demeanor for the athletes and represents the school in a favorable manner.
- Works cooperatively with the high school head coach and administrators on all endeavors related to assigned sport.
- Performs scouting duties for the varsity team per the high school head coach’s request.
