Clinton County Veteran Affairs is accepting applications for a full time Veterans Service Officer. Qualified candidates shall have a High School diploma or equivalent with vocational/ technical training and 1 year of related experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities; position requires a valid PA Driver's License. Satisfactorily pass pre-employment drug screen, the County and FBI background checks/fingerprinting, along with the computer skills test. Must obtain and maintain the Veterans Service Officer accreditation, including any annual training as required
Salary $40,335.00 (Grade I)

They are responsible for ensuring veterans and their families are receiving the benefits they are entitled to. They serve as a subject matter expert, a liaison, a comrade, a counselor, and a listening ear.

- Serves as a local contact between the veteran and their dependents and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA). Conducts in depth interviews with individuals in order to assess their eligibility for various benefits.
- Verifies military service records and documents for legitimacy, accuracy, and eligibility.
- Advises veterans and their dependents of federal, state, and local benefits available to them.
- Aids veterans and their dependents in completing applications for benefits.
- Communicates regularly with claimants regarding the status of their claims.
- Maintains and updates the Clinton County database with military service records and burial data.
- Processes and approves County burial benefits for the families of war time veterans and their spouses.
- Makes visits to nursing home, hospitals, personal residence, etc. when necessary to interview veterans.
- Provides counseling to veterans and their families while assessing their individual or collective need and eligibility.
- Serves as a local subject matter expert and makes referrals to other agencies when necessary to ensure that all benefits and entitlements are received as provided by law.
- Advocates for the veteran and/or families at hearings, appeals, and courts during the adjudication process.
