What are the responsibilities and job description for the Formulation Scientist position at Clinovo?
We are looking for a highly driven professional to support the advancement and scale-up of mRNA and targeted lipid nanoparticle (tLNP) technologies. This position is focused on the development and optimization of both targeted and non-targeted lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations, delivery systems, technology transfer initiatives, and laboratory-based studies that support the organization’s product development pipeline.
Responsibilities
- Design, optimize, and qualify LNP formulations, lipid components, and targeted ligand chemistries to enable efficient delivery of various therapeutic payloads (e.g., mRNA) while ensuring formulation performance and tolerability
- Participate in the planning and execution of development studies to establish formulation processes, manufacturing unit operations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Perform qualification activities for raw materials, laboratory equipment, and drug product (DP) formulations
- Improve and streamline workflows related to lipid synthesis and preparation, targeted lipid production, tLNP manufacturing, and downstream purification processes
- Produce research-grade tLNP materials to support in vitro and in vivo studies within research and development programs
- Analyze, interpret, and compile experimental results to advance lead development programs and maintain data quality standards that support successful technology transfer to external manufacturing partners
- Review and evaluate scientific literature to identify insights and opportunities that can guide internal research and development efforts
- Conduct in-use drug product studies to assess stability and performance, generating data to support regulatory documentation and submissions
- Maintain accurate and complete records of laboratory activities and experimental data in laboratory notebooks
- Oversee daily laboratory operations, including inventory management and procurement of supplies. Source and manage critical raw materials, including lipids and targeting ligands, to ensure uninterrupted project execution
- Manage materials, equipment, and reagents in accordance with established procedures and laboratory standards
- Track project progress and effectively organize, analyze, interpret, and communicate results to key stakeholders while providing technical recommendations to leadership
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific field
- Minimum of 5 years of laboratory research experience within an industry environment
- Demonstrated experience developing LNP formulations across multiple scales and technology platforms, including targeted chemistries such as lipid-ligand conjugation. Experience with mRNA delivery systems is required. Expertise in lipid preparation and purification techniques is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical thinking, data interpretation, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills, with a collaborative and team-oriented approach
Additional Requirements
- Flexibility to work outside standard business hours when needed, including participation in evening meetings with global collaborators
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally for extended periods to support technology transfer activities and program implementation
