Key Responsibilities:
Ensure the site’s compliance to applicable environmental, health, safety, and transportation regulations while performing the following duties:
- Maintain and implement EHS programs in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements, including all recordkeeping and required submissions.
- Notify and interact with regulatory agencies as necessary.
- Manage the site’s Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security Management System. Lead and / or participate in internal and registrar audits to ensure attainment and subsequent retention of the site’s RCMS certification. Support implementation and maintenance of the ISO 9001 and RCMS management systems.
- Lead and / or participate in incident investigations for injuries, illnesses, near misses, and environmental incidents using root cause analysis to implement appropriate corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Ensure site’s incident and corrective action systems are maintained, with incident investigations and corrective actions being sufficient and completed in a timely manner.
- Participate in site-sponsored Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) activities and Gloucester and Salem Community Advisory Panel (GASCAP).
- Manage the site’s EHS Compliance Calendar to ensure all tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Participate in and lead the site to identify areas for process improvements, and implement changes to address environmental, health, and safety concerns, including waste reduction.
- Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections, addressing any hazards or non-compliance issues promptly.
- Participate in MOCs and PHAs as appropriate.
Key Requirements:
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Safety, Chemistry, or in an equivalent technical field. Master’s degree a plus.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the environmental, health, and safety field, preferably in a chemical environment.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience supervising/managing environmental, health and safety professionals.
- Strong knowledge of process safety, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental regulations. Working knowledge of EPA, NJTCPA, NJDPCC, NJPDES, RCRA DOT, and DEA regulations is desired.
- Experience interacting with regulatory agencies is preferred.
- Professional certification (e.g., CIH, CPEA, CSP, or PE) a plus.
- Responsible Care and PSM experience
- Highly organized and strategic - ability to manage numerous projects / tasks with multiple personnel.
- Understanding and experience utilizing EHS Compliance Calendars
- Computer literate - expertise in Microsoft Office required. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred.
- SAP experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be physically able to operate variety of electronic office equipment – computer, printer, radio, phone.
- At times, prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer/workstation and on calls.
- May occasionally need to lift up to 10 pounds.
- May occasionally need to bend, stoop, reach and/or twist at the waist.
- Ability to perform tasks, visit, and walk through a manufacturing environment with the following conditions: chemical and mechanical operations, dust and fumes, working within safe distance but in proximity to forklift and machine operations, exposure to heat and humidity, hearing or talking around loud machinery.
