Within the Cardiac Surgery service—also known as Open Heart Surgery and Cardiovascular Surgery—the Cardiovascular Perfusionist will contribute to a high-performing program that is tightly integrated with anesthesia, critical care, and interventional cardiology; serving a tri-state region across Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa. Reporting to a Director of Perfusion Services and partnering closely with the Chief of Cardiac Surgery and Anesthesia leadership, the Licensed Perfusionist is supported by friendly nurses and a diverse team of surgeons, APPs, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and allied health professionals; responsibilities span safe cardiopulmonary bypass operation of the heart–lung machine, anticoagulation management, hemodilution and ultrafiltration strategies, autotransfusion/cell salvage, intraoperative monitoring with TEG/ROTEM, ECMO initiation and management, ventricular assist device support, perfusion documentation, equipment QA, and on-call rotation; streamlined workflows, optimized EHR builds, clear protocols, and robust educator and simulation resources help the Cardiovascular Perfusionist practice at top of license while mentoring students and contributing to clinical research when interested.
