Part Time Construction Estimator
Greater Houston area | Hybrid position, with site visits as needed and in-person company meetings a few times per year
Pay: $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience
Job Description
Cline Construction and Renovation is seeking a part-time construction estimator to support residential and commercial projects through scope development, estimating, proposal preparation, and handoff to production.
This is a primarily home-based, hybrid estimating role. In-person attendance is required for site visits needed for accurate estimating and company meetings a few times per year. The estimator will work with the sales and operations teams to gather project information and prepare detailed estimates and proposals.
Work with the operations team to develop an estimating catalog and adjust pricing estimations based on completed project budget reviews.
Focus: Scope development, accurate estimating, proposal support, and a complete handoff of approved projects to production.
Project Information and Site Documentation
Coordinate with the sales and operations teams to obtain project information; conduct site visits only when needed for accurate estimating.
Review measurements, photos, existing-condition details, client preferences documented by the sales team, and supporting bid documentation. Verify site conditions and measurements in person when needed.
Identify scope gaps and clarify project requirements with the sales and operations teams before preparing estimates.
Document selections, allowances, exclusions, and project-specific considerations.
Estimating and Pricing
Prepare detailed estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
Review plans, specifications, and site documentation.
Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotes.
Coordinate with the operations team to confirm scope, pricing, and project requirements.
Participate in completed-project budget reviews with the operations team, compare estimated costs with actual costs, and use the findings to build and maintain an estimating catalog. Recommend updates to labor, material, and subcontractor pricing for operations approval.
Proposal Support and Approval
Assist with preparing proposals and making revisions as scope or client selections change.
Provide internal estimating support to the salesperson for proposal questions and revisions; the salesperson handles most client communication and approval.
Submit final pricing and proposals to the operations team for approval before release to clients.
Production Handoff
Organize approved scopes, estimates, photos, measurements, selections, and supporting documents.
Communicate project assumptions, exclusions, outstanding decisions, and special requirements to production.
Assist with questions and clarifications during the transition from sales to production.
Qualifications and Requirements
Previous construction estimating experience; experience in both residential and commercial projects is preferred.
Ability to read and interpret plans and develop scopes from project documentation, information provided by the sales team, and site visits when needed.
Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, labor requirements, and trade scopes.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently from home and meet estimating deadlines.
Proficiency with spreadsheets and estimating software; Buildertrend experience is a plus.
A personal computer and devices suitable for remote estimating, documentation, and communication.
