Job Summary

Ascent Studio is seeking multiple Youth Instructors to join our programs staff in delivering Northern Colorado’s best recreational climbing programming. Youth Instructors will work closely with the Youth Programs Coordinator and Lead Youth Instructors to ensure that Ascent Studio Youth Programs run smoothly, deliver exceptional climbing education, and provide the optimal experience for all participants. Our summer programs consist of summer camps Monday through Friday. We also have weekend birthday parties and drop-in classes.

This position has an end date of August 13th, correlating with the conclusion of our summer camp programs. Ascent Studio may choose to extend the employment of any successful applicant past this end date, based on program need.

Compensation

  • $16.50 per hour
  • Part-time hourly position: 20-40 hours per week depending on program need

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the smooth operation of the youth classes offered at Ascent Studio; including Seasonal Camps, Youth Clubs, Friday Night Rock Out, and Weekend Warriors.
  • Work directly with the Lead Youth Instructors to ensure that Ascent Studio Youth Programs run smoothly and maintain safety and consistency for all participants.
  • Interact with parents in a proactive and professional manner to provide the best possible experience for all parents associated with the Youth Programs.
  • Arrive early before each class to assist with setup, prepare equipment, and greet participants.
  • Assist the Lead Youth Instructor in delivering the curriculum and organizing/supervising games and activities.
  • Ensure all children are supervised during the entirety of each Youth Program.
  • Meet with Lead Youth Instructors before every class to go over curriculum and after every class to re-cap.
  • Uphold the Mission and Values of the Ascent Studio Youth Instructional Program.
  • Model proper safety habits, community etiquette, and positive attitude for the participants in the Ascent Studio Youth Instructional Program.
  • Act as a good ambassador for the business, the community, and the sport.
  • Create relationships with customers, and help form bonds within the climbing community.
  • Attend all mandatory Youth Instructor and All-Staff meetings.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as may arise from time to time and may be assigned to the employee.

Qualifications

  • Summer Weekday availability is required. Periodic Weekend availability is required.
  • Must miss no more than three weeks of camp over the summer.
  • Must have experience working with children in an instructional capacity.
  • Must be proficient with technical climbing skills including but not limited to top rope belaying, knot tying, harness usage, and rope management.
  • Must be able to interface with customers on a professional level.
  • Must be reliable regarding schedule and responsibilities.
  • Must be eligible per Colorado Labor Law to work more than 8 hours in a given 24 hour period, OR have completed the Ascent Studio CIT program.

Preferences

  • Experience instructing youth programs in a climbing setting is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a summer camp setting is strongly preferred.
