The Carpenter Journeyman performs skilled, journey level carpentry work in support of commercial refrigeration and HVAC/R construction projects. This role focuses on building, installing, remodeling, and repairing structural and finish components required for refrigeration system installation in new construction and renovation environments. Work is performed in accordance with union agreements, OSHA standards, project specifications, and applicable building codes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform journeyman level carpentry for commercial refrigeration and mechanical construction projects, including layout, framing, blocking, curbs, platforms, enclosures, and equipment supports.
- Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and work orders to ensure accurate installation and layout.
- Construct and modify structural elements to accommodate refrigeration equipment, piping, ductwork, electrical conduit, and control systems.
- Install anchors, sleeves, access panels, equipment pads, and protective housings as required by project specifications and mechanical plans.
- Coordinate work with refrigeration technicians, electricians, pipefitters, and other union trades to maintain project efficiency and compliance.
- Perform repair, retrofit, and remodeling work on existing structures supporting refrigeration systems.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and jobsite conditions in compliance with union, company, and safety standards.
- Provide professional jobsite conduct and customer interaction in accordance with company and union expectations.
- Comply with all OSHA regulations, local building codes, environmental policies, and project‑specific safety requirements.
- Participate in emergency or off‑hour work assignments as required by project demands or collective bargaining agreements.
Skills, Training, and Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of commercial construction practices, layout techniques, and structural carpentry.
- Ability to safely and accurately use hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
- Experience working on projects involving HVAC/R or mechanical systems preferred.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and coordinate work with other trades.
- Commitment to jobsite safety, quality workmanship, and productivity standards consistent with union expectations.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, stoop, and perform manual tasks throughout the workday.
- Must be capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment up to 75 lbs.
- Work may occur indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions, noise levels, and construction environments.
- Potential exposure to construction‑related hazards and materials consistent with commercial jobsite conditions.
