Job Title: Backend Java Developer

Location: McLean, VA (Primary) / Wilmington, DE (Secondary) – Hybrid (3 Days Onsite Mandatory)

Rate: $65/hr on W2 (All Inclusive)

Duration: 9 Months (Possible Extension)

Role Overview

Capital One is seeking an experienced Backend Java Developer to work on building and maintaining robust ETL pipelines within its data ecosystem. The role involves processing inbound files from external partners and integrating them into the Capital One platform using modern cloud and big data technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines for data extraction and loading
• Handle inbound file transfers from Discover into the Capital One ecosystem
• Develop backend services using Java and Apache Spark
• Implement and manage workflows using AWS Step Functions
• Build and maintain data processing jobs using AWS Glue and Lambda
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data accuracy and reliability
• Follow Capital One SDLC, security, and compliance standards
• Support deployment and monitoring in AWS environments

Mandatory Skills

• Strong backend development experience using Java
• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark
• Solid experience with AWS services:
• AWS Step Functions
• AWS Glue
• AWS Lambda
• Strong understanding of ETL pipelines (extraction, transformation, loading)
• Experience handling file ingestion and data integration workflows
• Previous Capital One experience (Mandatory)
• Ability to work onsite in McLean, VA (preferred) or Wilmington, DE

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience working with large-scale financial data systems
• Knowledge of data security and compliance in financial environments
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
