Rate: $60/hr on W2 (All Inclusive)

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Java Developer with strong experience in building ETL pipelines, large-scale data movement, and backend services using Java, Spark, and AWS. The candidate will be responsible for handling data ingestion processes—including receiving files from external systems (Discover) and integrating them into the Capital One ecosystem. This role requires hybrid onsite work from McLean, VA (preferred) or Wilmington, DE.
Key Responsibilities
Develop backend services and components using Java and Spring frameworks.
Build and maintain ETL pipelines for large-scale data ingestion, extraction, loading, and transformation.
Receive incoming files from Discover and securely transfer them into the Capital One ecosystem.
Work With AWS Services, Such As
Step Functions
Glue
Lambda
S3
Design, implement, and optimize Spark-based data processing workflows.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Data Engineering, Cloud, and Architecture.
Ensure data quality, performance, scalability, and reliability of the pipelines.
Participate in code reviews, unit testing, troubleshooting, and production support.
Work in an Agile environment and meet delivery timelines.
Mandatory Skills
Strong hands-on experience with Java (Backend Development).
Experience building ETL pipelines, including data extraction, transformation, and loading.
Expertise in Apache Spark for data processing.
Strong experience working with AWS services (Step Functions, Glue, Lambda, S3).
Must have previous experience working with Capital One.
Experience with cloud-native development and distributed systems.
Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, CI/CD, and Agile methodologies.
Nice-to-Have Experience
Experience with microservices architecture and REST APIs.
Exposure to Kafka, Airflow, or other orchestration tools.
Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience in financial or banking data ecosystems.
Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization skills.
