Senior QA Automation Engineer, Contract to Hire

We are seeking an experienced Senior QA Automation Engineer to help teams build, mature, and scale their automated testing capabilities. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role for someone who can not only develop automation solutions, but also establish best practices, mentor team members, and leave teams with a stronger testing capability than when they started.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is comfortable working across multiple technology stacks and partnering with engineers, Business Analysts, and Agile teams to improve quality throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess existing QA processes and identify the best opportunities for test automation across applications and workflows.
• Design, develop, and maintain automated tests using Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, and/or Postman.
• Partner with engineers and BAs to develop test plans, scenarios, and effective automation strategies.
• Build and organize QA tooling, test repositories, test-case management structures, and testing processes.
• Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines, including GitHub Actions or similar tools.
• Review automation scripts and provide guidance around quality, maintainability, and best practices.
• Work across microservices, APIs, legacy applications, and AWS cloud environments.
• Mentor and upskill engineers, BAs, and less-experienced team members on testing fundamentals and automation practices.
• Partner with QA leadership, Product Owners, Architects, Change Management, and Agile Release Train teams to establish consistent QA standards.
• Help create sustainable testing practices that teams can successfully maintain and expand independently.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• 7 years of QA automation engineering experience.
• Hands-on expertise with multiple automation tools, including Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, and Postman, with the ability to quickly learn additional tools.
• Strong programming/scripting skills in Java and/or JavaScript.
• Experience with REST/SOAP API testing and automation.
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions.
• Ability to work across diverse environments including microservices, legacy systems, and AWS.
• Experience developing automation frameworks, test strategies, and maintainable testing practices.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring and upskilling others in testing and automation.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities within an Agile environment, and influence teams toward QA best practices.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with qTest, Xray, Zephyr, or TestRail.
• Experience with BDD, Cucumber, and Gherkin.
• Familiarity with Karate or other API automation frameworks.
• Experience working within Agile Release Trains (ARTs) / SAFe environments.
