Veterinary Technician / Veterinary Assistant (Full-Time)
4-Doctor Veterinary Clinic
We are a busy, four-doctor veterinary clinic seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and motivated Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This is a Full time position requiring a minimum of 32 hours per week.
Position Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older (due to radiographic equipment use)
- Ability to work a minimum of 32 hours per week
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for long periods, bend, stoop, and perform physical tasks
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Team-oriented with a positive attitude
- Previous veterinary or kennel experience preferred
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review patient medical records, enter information into computer systems, and maintain accurate documentation
- Obtain medical histories and record patient vital signs
- Maintain detailed medical records and document treatments in compliance with clinic protocols
- Admit and discharge patients
- Monitor hospitalized patients and log vital signs
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed while ensuring proper aseptic technique
- Place catheters, perform blood draws, and assist with animal catheterization
- Perform laboratory testing including blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostic assays
- Operate diagnostic imaging equipment, including X-ray machines
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, dental procedures, and diagnostic treatments by preparing equipment and providing proper animal restraint
- Conduct safe and effective animal restraint using appropriate handling techniques
- Assist with specialized procedures such as dental cleanings
- Process and log prescription refills (in-house, call-out pharmacy, and online pharmacy)
- Support pet owners with general pet care guidance including nutrition, grooming, and behavioral advice
- Perform kennel duties including feeding, cleaning, grooming, and monitoring animal health and behavior
- Maintain client educational materials
- Perform departmental housekeeping duties
- Handle general animal husbandry tasks to ensure optimal patient welfare
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven kennel experience and ability to confidently handle multiple animals
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills
- Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and veterinary terminology
- Familiarity with dental terminology and pet dental procedures
- Experience in veterinary critical care and laboratory testing preferred
- Skilled in dog handling and behavioral management techniques
- Competence in operating X-ray equipment
- Ability to perform animal catheterization and maintain aseptic technique
