JOB SUMMARY:

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education:Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university.
Experience:
- Five to Seven years post MLS library experience including five years in reference and collection development.
- Two to Five years supervisory or lead worker experience in a union environment.
- Participation in professional organizations, activities, and continuing education.
- Knowledge of Library theory, standards, best practices. and knowledge of the literature and subject field of the Department in a public library, public sector, union environment preferred.
- Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
- Experience modifying and adapting existing programs, services, policies and processes to meet changing needs and expectations is required.
- Working with community leaders, public officials, donors and other community stakeholders is required.
- Experience managing budgets, resources and people is required. Governmental budgetary principles,practices and procedures preferred with the ability to interpret statistical information.
- Knowledge of preservation theory and practice including digitization and electronic resources creation.
- Ability to perform complex research including knowledge of electronic resources.
- Ability to demonstrate oral and written presentation skills as well as business English, spelling, grammar and proofreading.
- Proficiency in MS Office or similar software is required. Advanced computer skills in electronic communication, database management, bibliographicsoftware and internet browsing is preferred. And ability to adapt to new and updated software and procedures.
Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise staff in specifiedarea, including hiring, training, coaching, professional growth, performance management, productivity, quality, service, discipline and terminations.
- Manages complex collections of specialized library researchmaterial. Manages and coordinates the delivery of reference and complex research services in person, over the phone, and virtually.
- Makes decisions regarding selection, transfer, and withdrawal of library materials including monitoring and making recommendations related to the collection development policy.
- Recommends staffing, budget, and equipment expenditures. Complies and interprets statistics and narrative reports.
- Manages the Department library materials budget and is responsible for portions of the budget assigned to subordinates.
- Manages and implements the delivery of reference and research services.
- Performs public service including reference work consistent with RUSA guidelines, reader’s advisory, assisting patrons to find materials, use materials, and reserve materials, and facilitating computer use and the use of Library equipment.
- Promotes the use of theLibrary including developing collaborative relationships with individuals, community and professional groups, attending community meetings, presenting programs, participating in speaking engagements, conducting Library tours and class visits, and facilitating discussion groups.
- Participates in community outreach activities and events.
- Prepares promotional material including flyers, booklists, produce visual aids, informational materials, and coordinate programming.
- Interprets Library policy and procedure for the staff and public.
- Compiles and interprets statistics and produces narrative reports.
- Researches, coordinates, curates, and produces library exhibits in coordination with CPL departments and outside agencies as appropriate. Digitize collections and oversees departmental digital projects in coordination with the Cleveland Digital Public Library.
- Oversees cataloging of specialized collections in coordination with Catalog Department. Creates finding aids using industry standards.
- Manages donations and bequests made to the department and oversees department assigned endowments.
- Mayoversees the handling and processing of specialized or rare materials for the Department in consultation with Preservation.
- Ensures compliance with the collective bargaining agreement in consultation with Human Resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
