Toni M. and Donald S. Scherzer Endowment Summer Internship
The Cleveland Museum of Art is seeking a high school junior or senior with an interest in working at the art museum for a paid internship. As a high school intern at the Cleveland Museum of Art, you will have the exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in community engagement. Each year, the Director of the Cleveland Museum of Art and the President of University Circle Inc. open the Parade the Circle along with other civic leaders in a costumed or adorned group known as the Director’s Ensemble.
This intern will work with Community Arts staff and Parade the Circle Costume Manager to develop a format for the Director’s Ensemble that allows for participatory community engagement to finish the costumes.
Skills/interests: arts education, community engagement, fashion, costuming, textile or multimedia art, performance, community engagement. Some sewing machine experience is ideal but not required.
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop an understanding of the legacy of CMA Community Arts
- Understanding of Community Arts programming and skills in engagement
- Skills in sewing, costuming, and performance
- Project management and communication skills
Timeline/schedule:
May 1 – June 30, 2026:
Work approximately 10 hours per week, on Saturdays and Sundays (12 – 5pm) at the Community Arts Center.
Attendance at Parade the Circle 2026 on June 13 is expected

About Parade the Circle:
The Cleveland Museum of Art’s (CMA) Parade the Circle, the beloved tradition celebrating art, culture, and community, returns on Saturday, June 13, 2026. The 34th annual parade takes place in University Circle and features vibrant and imaginative costumes, towering puppets, floats, and intricately crafted masks. This year’s event coincides with the CMA’s 110th anniversary as an institution and the United States' Semiquincentennial. Parade the Circle, which was founded by the CMA in 1990 with a small number of artists, has since grown to become a beloved large-scale event, drawing crowds in the tens of thousands every June. Families, neighbors, community groups, churches, artists, performers—everyone is welcome to express their creativity, show their talent, and celebrate the arts at Parade the Circle. Every year, unique and magnificent parade designs delight participants and attendees alike.
