Union Diesel Technician
Position Summary
The Diesel Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role requires diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and completing repairs in a timely manner to support fleet reliability and minimize downtime.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct detailed inspections of diesel engines, vehicles, and equipment to identify mechanical or electrical issues.

Perform routine preventative maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and system inspections.

Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and technical manuals.

Repair or replace engine components, fuel systems, electrical systems, braking systems, and other mechanical parts.

Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repair work for fleet management and compliance purposes.

Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient shop operations and minimize vehicle downtime.

Follow all union guidelines, workplace policies, and safety regulations while performing maintenance and repair tasks.

Stay current with diesel technology, equipment updates, and industry best practices through training and professional development.

Communicate repair findings and maintenance recommendations clearly to supervisors or fleet managers.

Ensure all work is completed according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.

Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of a formal diesel technology or automotive program from a technical school or community college is preferred.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a diesel technician or in a similar role within the automotive industry.
- Experience in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Proven track record of performing routine maintenance and inspections on diesel vehicles and equipment.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of diesel engine systems, including fuel injection, turbocharging, and exhaust systems.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to diesel engine maintenance and repair.
- Physical capability to lift heavy equipment and work in various environmental conditions.
Salary : $50,000 - $150,000
