Summary:
Performs skilled administrative support work providing specialized services and programs for the library, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Library Adult Services Manager. The normal schedule includes Monday and Tuesday 8 am to 5 pm, Wednesday and Thursday 10am to 7pm, Friday 8 am to 5 pm and at least one Saturday per month, 8 am to 2 pm.

Additional tasks may be assigned as needed, with or without notice, to meet the needs of the department and county.
Essential Functions:
Assist customers at any library facility, either by phone, chat, or in person, by providing reader advisory; by explaining how computers, databases, and catalogs function; by answering reference, navigational, informational, and technological questions, and by instructing customers in the use of the library and its resources.
Work with the adult services team to facilitate resource sharing with member libraries, our library system, and our community through the packing and unpacking of materials, attentive documentation, and skilled organization.
Create, plan, advertise, and facilitate both programming and displays for Summer Reading and system wide library initiatives for adults and other customers.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED and one to three years' experience in customer service, youth services or adult services programming experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates/Technical degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of integrated library systems and applications; Microsoft office and/or Google Suite; knowledge of library collection development best practices; materials and research techniques; ability to analyze records and statistics; ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment; ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library customers, library staff, and community partners.
Work Location:
This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire with work travel required as needed. Any change of work location, even on a short-term or interim basis, must be reviewed by the Supervisor and HR for approval.
Physical Requirements:
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).
