With guidance from the Principal Investigator, independently initiates and manages various research protocols and plans including maintenance of regulatory documents, patient files, and grant related documents. Develop workflows for human research and/or bench top studies to ensure all data is accurately collected and subsequently entered into compliant databases. Assist in protocol writing. Work in partnership with the Principal Investigator to design and create research plans and methods; Liaison between the Principal Investigator, patient, clinical team, and other members of the research team outside of the laboratory. Mentor new members of research team. Participates in budgetary process including development of budgets for various grants. Extract data from the electronic medical record (EMR) and compile into excel for use in publications. Assist with major grant writing protocols and components, especially with the new NIH human regulatory components.
Responsibilities:
- With guidance from the Principal Investigator, develops, implements, and manages grant funded research study protocols and day to day research activities in medium sized or moderately complex laboratory and clinical settings.
- Analyzes research study findings and shares and interprets data with Principal Investigator.
- Serves as a liaison between Principal Investigator, patient, clinical team, and other members of the research team.
- Manages multiple priorities and projects with competing deadlines.
- Allocates time to meet completion requirements.
- Serves as a coach and mentor for other members of the research team.
- Reviews and monitors study protocols to ensure compliance and completion of study related procedures.
- Assist in grant writing including development of budget and human components.
- Extract clinical data and prepare for analysis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in science, healthcare administration, public health, or related field.
- Advanced degree preferred.

- Ability to multitask with direct patient contact, follow up laboratory values and discuss with PI, manage follow up appointments.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of three years of experience in project management, data analysis and systems training in a research laboratory setting required. This experience is usually obtained by working directly for a Principal Investigator in a basic or translational research laboratory.
- Knowledge of research policies and procedures, and ability to develop research plans and/or protocols. Knowledge and expertise in federal, state, local and institutional research guidelines and the ability to implement these requirements in the research laboratory.
- Offset: Master’s degree and two years of experience as described above.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
- In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
- In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.
- Requirements include good near visual acuity and color acuity.
