As an Exercise Physiologist, you will develop exercise prescriptions and oversee exercise progression in patients with cardiovascular diseases in a rehabilitative setting. Your primary focus will be on exercise sessions and collaboration with the Cardiac Rehabilitation’s interdisciplinary care team that focuses on health and fitness assessments, risk screening, body composition evaluation and medical weight management intervention. A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) from 7:00AM – 7:00PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance.
Provide exercise prescriptions for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen.
Update exercise prescriptions according to patient response.
Implement concepts of cardiac secondary prevention.
Recognize contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise.
Appropriately respond to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
Provide exercise information to patients, peers and the community through public speaking and education classes.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in an exercise-related field
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and ability to help patients stand and walk.
Will require some lifting, bending, twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients.
Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
