Hillcrest Hospital’s 5 Seidman Renal Unit is a 24 private bed unit that provides care and treatment to acutely ill adult and geriatric patients who require inpatient or observation care. Patients in this unit have renal diseases, respiratory diseases, cardiac diseases, diabetes and other chronic diseases. This unit also specializes in peritoneal dialysis while also providing treatments such as cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, nutritional support, diagnostic testing and spiritual support.
As Patient Companion, you will help facilitate this mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. In this role, you will assist RNs, physicians, dietitians and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) varying shifts. Working 48 hours per 6-week schedule will be required.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming and taking vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry.
- Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.
- Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers and ambulation.
- Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
- Initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.
- Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Heartsaver Level of Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within three months of hire
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $16.50
Maximum hourly: $16.50
