As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will support the Ophthalmologist by performing various clinical and administrative tasks throughout the department. You will assist with direct patient care as directed, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and at ease throughout their appointment and exam. In this role, your ability to facilitate a welcoming environment can make a difference in the lives of Cleveland Clinic patients every day.
A caregiver in this position works days 8:00am to 5:00pm. Floating between all regional Cole Eye facilities is required.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Receive and prepare patients for examination or treatment.
Perform initial patient examinations, ophthalmic testing procedures and routine screening tests.
Assist physicians with examinations and procedures.
Document patient information in their medical record.
Perform clerical, stocking, maintenance and related duties.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma/GED
One year of experience in an ophthalmic setting providing direct patient care OR additional formal training in Ophthalmology
Knowledge of medical terminology
Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and PC.
- Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.
- May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
- Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
