Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Plant Manager at the Toledo, OH facility. The Plant Manager is responsible for a high level of leadership for the employees and drives overall performance while ensuring a safe work environment, profitable growth, outstanding customer service, and employee development. This position plays an integral role in the continued success of the company’s HBI operation. The ideal candidate has strong leadership abilities, excellent problem-solving skills, and a solid background in manufacturing and operations management.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Manage the performance, development, and engagement of about 200 salary and union employees to align with all policies, programs, and procedures.
- Align and cascade business strategy to tangible operational drivers promoting action to optimize.
- Develop and drive key performance indicators consistently to gauge process efficiency, product quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Prepare budget and forecast models and cascade to managers and employees.
- Monitor the progress of tasks associated with deviations and take action to achieve target completion dates.
- Communicate changes in the business plan, both planned and unplanned, to impacted parties to minimize interruptions to customers.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on the scope of work for the short, medium, and long-term identifying and minimizing competing interests between departments.
- Provide leadership to a team of direct reports, so they are clear about their role purpose, level of work, and task assignments.
- Develop, maintain, and provide input for personnel scorecards that align with established high-performance standards and goals.
- Coach personnel on increased performance on a day-to-day basis to deliver results consistent with the operational and maintenance plans and standards.
- Provide support and positive reinforcement to personnel when behaviors align with operational goals.
- Ensure team behavior is aligned and accountable to the employee performance policy.
- Lead and promote Iron Units’ health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Liaise with internal and external regulatory parties on safety and environmental aspects.
- Track safety and environmental performance by actively participating in audits and observations and acting on areas of corrective action.
- Foster strong relationships with key service providers in safety, environment, maintenance, and commercial to ensure wider business goals are met.
- Advocate and justify capital expenditure to improve plant processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
- 15 years’ experience in a heavy industrial environment preferably a steel, hydrocarbon, or mining environment.
- 2 years of managerial experience overseeing, leading, and coaching a large group of employees.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office experience (Excel, Word, etc.), with excellent communication skills, both orally and written.
- Proficient in creating and analyzing data using business improvement tools such as Six Sigma, RCA, and statistical process control.
- Knowledge and experience with ISO processes (9001, 14001, 45001).
- Ability to read and understand technical and regulatory documents including PFDs, P&ID, and O&M manuals, as well as API, and ASME standards.
- Previous experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Project Management Software (MS Project, Primavera, etc.).
- Physical demands may include being sedentary for long periods, occasionally lifting up to 25lbs, must be able to handle stairs and long periods of working on your feet, and being routinely exposed to plant environments including noise, dust, dirt, heights, and vibrations, extreme climate changes /changes in weather.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Chemical, Mechanical, Mineral Processing, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Material Sciences, or equivalent.
- Managerial experience with both union and salaried employees.
- Previous experience with Ellipse.
