Role Description The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Hayward, CA. This position is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, performing detailed takeoffs, and preparing accurate cost estimates for HVAC and related mechanical systems in multi-family and commercial projects. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing project requirements, coordinating with project managers and engineers, soliciting and reviewing vendor and subcontractor quotes, and updating estimates as designs evolve. The estimator will also assist in value engineering, budgeting, and proposal preparation, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support bids and active projects. This role requires consistent documentation, cost tracking, and participation in meetings to ensure estimates align with project schedules, quality standards, and client expectations.
Qualifications:
Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in HVAC systems, including design-build and multi-family applications.
Understanding of mechanical piping and plumbing systems, and ability to interpret related drawings and specifications.
Skills in project management and budgeting, including cost analysis, scheduling awareness, and coordination with stakeholders.
Ability to read and interpret construction documents, blueprints, and engineering plans with attention to detail.
Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and general office productivity tools.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and with external partners.
Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
Relevant experience in mechanical contracting or construction estimating; formal training or degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is beneficial.
Familiarity with California building codes, energy regulations, and industry standards is an advantage.
