Job Overview: We are looking for a professional with a friendly attitude and the ability to multi-task; to provide high-level administrative and clerical support to the Judge. This position requires discretion, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
The primary responsibility of the staff attorney in Juvenile is to provide support on all legal matters in the operation of the Juvenile Court, which is responsible for processing delinquency, paternity, custody, child support, and abuse/neglect/dependency cases.
Minimum Requirements:
· Completion of Juris Doctorate Degree and significant, meaningful experience in working with the public and/or Court on legal matters pertaining to juvenile and family matters.
· Experience working in a court, government, or law office setting
· Knowledge of legal terminology and court procedures
· Proven administrative or clerical experience, preferably in a legal or court setting
· Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Proficient in Microsoft Office and court case management systems
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Staff Attorney:
· Comprehends and analyzes complex legal matters, principals, procedures and other documents (e.g. correspondences, briefs, memoranda, research)
· Formulates views, theories and analysis based upon facts of each case and the changing law
· Effectively and efficiently researches legal and non-legal issues
· Prepares timely and effective written materials
· Knowledgeable of the Code of Professional Conduct, Code of Judicial Conduct, Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Juvenile Procedure, Local Rules of the Juvenile Court, Rules of Evidence and all rules, statutes specific to Juvenile matters in Ohio
· Works cooperatively with co-workers, Court staff, other judges, attorneys, litigants, witnesses and other court visitors
Judicial Assistant:
· Manage the Judge's calendar, including scheduling conferences and meetings with attorneys, court staff, outside agencies and other judges
· Draft, format, proofread, and process correspondence, memoranda, orders, and other court documents
· Set objection hearings and order transcripts
· Schedule interpreters for court hearings
· Processes QRTP entries and entries placing juvenile in placement and care; setting a support hearing and first semi-annual review and serving parties
· Assists with the clerk's office in various duties such as processing motions for contempt filed by Child Support Enforcement
· Fills in for court staff as needed
· Processes adjudication report for schools
· Handle sensitive, confidential, and privileged information with discretion
· Ensure compliance with court rules, policies, and ethical standards
· Maintain professionalism when interacting with the public, legal professionals, and court staff
· Answer phones, screen calls, and respond to inquiries on behalf of the Judge
· Manage mail and email correspondence
· Assist with special projects, as assigned by the Judge
