The Telecommunications Technician II is a professional with existing knowledge and experience of telecommunication and networking who participates in the support of Cleco’s telecommunications environment. Under minor supervision, performs tests, installations, maintenance, adjustments, minor designs and calibration on telecommunications and network equipment in the shop and field. Also provides related technical support to the business areas. Has developed a solid foundation of technical expertise in his/her area that he/she independently applies to a variety of problems or initiatives. Is seen as an expert in his/her defined area and is a resource of information for others. Key Responsibilities Contributes value and provides technical execution (under moderate supervision) of defined activities to support the delivery of telecommunications initiatives to achieve efficiency, effectiveness and innovation objectives. As directed, conducts research, identification and evaluation of telecommunications technology to increase benefits of such technology to the company to meet corporate objectives Independently applies initiatives such as configuration, installation, monitoring and maintenance of the following systems: 6GHz microwave systems, RTU SCADA systems, AMI smart meter systems, LMR communication systems, MAS radio systems, and OPGW and ADSS fiber. Tests, adjusts and repairs all telecommunications equipment to meet specifications and obtain a high level of reliability Installs and connects telecommunications equipment in a neat, accurate and orderly manner to preserve a high degree of reliability Monitor communication systems to detect and address operational issues, escalating more complex problems to senior specialists. Support the restoration of communication systems during storm recovery or outages, working under the guidance of senior specialists. Install and troubleshoot networking equipment such as routers, switches, media converters, and more for communication systems. Submits drawings and records as necessary to maintain up to date records of telecommunications installations Acquires price comparisons, orders and receives material, verifies packing lists to sustain sufficient spare parts to retain high system reliability Serve as a member of the 24/7 call out team which responds to any problems or discrepancies in the operation or condition of field telecommunications equipment to ensure timely corrective action is taken when needed Provides business areas instruction in the operation and use of telecommunications systems and equipment to promote a thorough understanding of the equipment need to meet their requirements Has developed a solid foundation of technical expertise in his/her area that he/she independently applies to a variety of problems or initiatives.
