What are the responsibilities and job description for the E-911 Communications Officer position at Cleburne County Commission?
Essential Functions
The following functions may be requested or required for this position and do not supersede Cleburne County’s Personnel Policy. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other functions may be required and assigned on an as needed basis.
Answers incoming emergency calls and prioritizes dispatch when multiple calls are holding.
Dispatches fire, law enforcements, and medical personnel.
Uses CAD system to record and log times (i.e. time received, dispatched, arrived, mileage).
Remains on the line with 911 callers in emergency situations until dispatched units arrive on scene.
Gives emergency medical advice and treatment instructions to callers per the EMD protocol.
Studies and follows Standard Operating Procedures.
Uses appropriate signal and 10-Codes for radio transmissions.
Uses Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center (ACJIC) computer to obtain and disseminate criminal history, driver license information, and other related information.
Enters and removes warrants
Communicates with other law enforcement agencies through electronic network.
Maintains and files information obtained from NCIC.
Obtains officers signature and other data on NCIC log.
Relays information obtained from ACJIC and NCIC to appropriate agencies.
Disinfects work station and empties trash before the end of every shift, vacuums office, assists in keep 911 station and EOC clean, and shreds documents and empties shredder when needed.
Notifies agencies of potentially dangerous weather or HAZ-MAT conditions.
Attends classes to obtain certification and re-certification.
Prepare and/or generate routine correspondence, letters, memoranda, forms, reports, charts, graphs and other documents.
Receive various types of documentation; review, process, respond, forward, maintain, and/or take other action as appropriate.
Attend meetings as required.
Answer the telephone; provide information, guidance and assistance; take and relay messages and/or direct calls to appropriate personnel; return calls as necessary.
Respond to routine requests for information or assistance from employees, officials, the general public, or other individuals.
Use knowledge of various software programs to operate a computer in an effective and efficient manner.
Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations; reads professional literature; maintain professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
Additional Functions
- Ability to answer calls, dispatch appropriate units, remain on the telephone with caller providing assistance until units arrive, and maintain a calm and professional manner during an emergency crisis.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time without breaks or lunches; work various and rotating shifts without supervision.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Essential Job Functions
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including a computer, printer, plotter, typewriter, facsimile machine, copy machine, calculator and telephone. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for normal office work.
DATA COMPREHENSION: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things which may include maps, reports, and reference manuals.
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to speak with and/or signal people to convey or exchange administrative, financial, legal and technical information, including giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants as well as communicating with officials and the general public.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Requires ability to read a variety of directions, instructions, and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to write reports, forms and job related documentation with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control, and confidence using correct English and well-modulated voice, such as in public speaking situations.
