What You'll Do

As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play an important role in keeping our hospital running smoothly and providing excellent patient care. Your responsibilities may include:

• Assisting veterinarians and veterinary technicians with appointments and procedures
• Obtaining and recording patient histories and vital signs
• Safely handling and restraining dogs, cats, and several other animal species
• Preparing patients for examinations, procedures, and surgery
• Assisting with surgical preparation, monitoring, and recovery
• Collecting and preparing laboratory samples
• Performing basic laboratory and diagnostic tasks
• Cleaning and maintaining examination rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and equipment
• Providing attentive care to hospitalized patients, including feeding, walking, cleaning, and monitoring
• Administering medications and treatments as directed and within the scope of training
• Maintaining accurate patient records
• Assisting with radiographs and other diagnostic procedures
• Stocking and maintaining treatment and exam areas
• Providing compassionate, professional service to clients
• Assisting with farm calls and mixed-animal cases
• Supporting other areas of the hospital as needed

We are a mixed-animal practice, which means you'll have opportunities to work with a variety of species and participate in farm calls. If you enjoy learning and want a position where no two days are exactly alike, you'll fit right in.

We believe the strongest veterinary teams are made up of people who understand more than just one area of the hospital. While this position has a primary focus on veterinary assisting, cross-training is an important part of our long-term goal. Our team members are encouraged to learn different areas of the hospital and support one another when needed. You may find yourself helping with patient care, assisting the veterinary team, caring for hospitalized animals, helping at the front desk, or stepping into another area where your team needs you. We're looking for someone who is willing to learn, willing to help, and understands that we succeed as a team.

Weekend & Hospital Care

We are currently closed to the public on weekends, but our hospitalized patients still need care. Team members participate in a rotating weekend schedule to ensure our patients receive the attention and care they need. Weekend responsibilities are primarily focused on patient care rather than regular client appointments.

We're looking for someone who has a genuine passion for animal care, is dependable and takes responsibility seriously, works well as part of a team, has strong attention to detail, is willing to learn and accept feedback, can stay calm and organized in a busy veterinary environment, communicates professionally with both coworkers and clients, is willing to help wherever needed, and understands the importance of compassionate patient care.

Veterinary experience is preferred, but we are willing to consider candidates with the right attitude, work ethic, and willingness to learn.
