Job Summary
The Field Technician/ Meter Reader role is an entry-level position perfect for learning the water/ wastewater/ public works industry from the ground up. Duties include meter reading, assisting with work orders & repairs, landscaping, after-hours support, and general labor activities. This position requires a valid driver's license with acceptable driver's history and must be 21 years of age or older.
Responsibilities

Review service orders to determine locations where meter readings need to be performed

Read water meters and enter data in route logs

Maintains required paperwork and logs in compliance with Federal, State and local rules and regulations

Inspect meters and connections to determine defects, faults and damages

Assists (with supervision) with repairs of meters, broken water mains, and service lines

Communicate problems with meters or incorrect readings to the Supervisor & Project Manager

Operates a company vehicle to conduct meter readings for assigned route

Connect and disconnect utility services as directed

Ensure that all data in the utility log book is maintained correctly, and kept updated

Perform general landscape maintenance including mowing, trimming, clean-ups, pruning, and other typical landscape maintenance tasks

Performs other related duties as directed
Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED

Valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Records are required

21 years of age or older

1-year of experience in meter reading, maintenance or servicing industry preferred but not required

Ability to work independently

Ability to understand water systems and concepts

Strong attention to detail

Must be available to work weekends, overtime and ‘on-call’ as needed
