POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Camp Teacher
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Education Programs
SUPERVISES: Volunteers and Interns involved with summer camp
EXEMPT OR NON-EXEMPT: Non-exempt temporary (seasonal)
PERCENTAGE OF FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT: Up to 40 hours per week
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to climb stairs, lift 50 lbs., swim, snorkel, pull nets and drive CMA vehicles.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Conduct Camp programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Create lesson plans and prepare daily activities which provide a fun and educational experience.
- Instruct morning and afternoon camp curriculum including classroom, snorkeling, kayaking, and animal interaction programs.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly prepared classroom.
- Assist with daily camp check in and camp dismissal process.
- Supervise campers during lunch break.
- Supervise volunteers and interns within the camp program.
- Monitoring and mentoring junior volunteer and college level interns.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Maintain a safe learning environment for campers.
- Adhere to aquarium and camp dress code policy.
- Adhere to aquarium and camp policies and procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- College degree in science, education or equivalent.
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Knowledge of Florida ecosystems and wildlife.
- Must be comfortable working outside in Florida environment for long periods of time.
- Experience with public presentations and excellent public interactions skills.
- Formal or non-formal teaching experience, boating and snorkeling experience preferred
- Submit to a background check and obtain approval from the Department of Children and Families.
