POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Camp Teacher

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Education Programs

SUPERVISES: Volunteers and Interns involved with summer camp

EXEMPT OR NON-EXEMPT: Non-exempt temporary (seasonal)

PERCENTAGE OF FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT: Up to 40 hours per week

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to climb stairs, lift 50 lbs., swim, snorkel, pull nets and drive CMA vehicles.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Conduct Camp programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Create lesson plans and prepare daily activities which provide a fun and educational experience.
• Instruct morning and afternoon camp curriculum including classroom, snorkeling, kayaking, and animal interaction programs.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and properly prepared classroom.
• Assist with daily camp check in and camp dismissal process.
• Supervise campers during lunch break.
• Supervise volunteers and interns within the camp program.
• Monitoring and mentoring junior volunteer and college level interns.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Maintain a safe learning environment for campers.
• Adhere to aquarium and camp dress code policy.
• Adhere to aquarium and camp policies and procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• College degree in science, education or equivalent.
• CPR/First Aid Certification
• Knowledge of Florida ecosystems and wildlife.
• Must be comfortable working outside in Florida environment for long periods of time.
• Experience with public presentations and excellent public interactions skills.
• Formal or non-formal teaching experience, boating and snorkeling experience preferred
• Submit to a background check and obtain approval from the Department of Children and Families.
