Job Overview
Applications are now being accepted for the position of Part-Time Deputy Assessor. Under the general supervision of the County Assessor, the Deputy Assessor performs a variety of duties related to property appraisal, assessment, and taxation.
Responsibilities
- · Inspect and evaluate real and personal property, as applicable, to determine property values and classifications for tax assessment purposes.
· Maintain and update assessment records, property data, and related departmental documentation.
· Respond to inquiries regarding property values, classifications, and property taxes.
· Address property assessment concerns and assist in resolving disagreements and disputes.
· Interpret and apply applicable laws, regulations, and statutes related to property assessment.
· Review and analyze Clearwater County property sales data to support accurate and equitable property valuations.
· Utilize maps, assessment software, and other technology to assist with property inspections, valuation, and assessment activities.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in accounting principles combined with construction experience or familiarity with building processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel spreadsheets for data collection and analysis
- Experience in residential and commercial property appraisal, real estate market analysis, or related fields
- Knowledge of property tax assessment procedures, property valuation techniques, and real estate analysis tools such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software
- Ability to perform quantitative research, financial analysis, and data collection with attention to detail
- Familiarity with legal descriptions, fair housing regulations, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), and tax experience is a plus
- Excellent report writing skills along with effective client communication abilities
- Understanding of financial concepts related to property valuation and appraisal review processes
- Skills in using financial software applications for data management and report generation
- Math proficiency essential for accurate calculations related to property value analysis
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, effective communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpret regulations and analyze property data accurately.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and minimum of 2 years addition education. Relevant experience in property assessment, real estate, or appraisals is preferred but not required. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and have experience using computers and Microsoft Office applications. Candidates must demonstrate strong computer skills and be willing to learn and adapt to various software applications.
Starting salary is $29.40 – 37.93 an hour with no benefits.
