Job Description:
Job purpose
The purpose of the RN Charge Nurse is to provide quality nursing care, implement procedures and programs, collaborate with the Nurse Manager to establish goals, as well as to determine work procedures and expedite the work flow of the department.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assess patients and analyze obtained information to develop appropriate care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments and monitor the administration of IV fluids.
- Be responsible for the flow of assigned pod and make management aware of any staffing issues.
- Assign add-on patients to the nursing staff.
- Act as float nurse when necessary in order to help other nurses with their assignments.
- Act as mentor for new nurses/employees.
- Assist in nursing management and in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be able to work well with others as well as individually.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must have knowledge of and be able to comply with all HIPAA regulations.
- Must have excellent time management skills.
Education/Experience
- Must have an Associate’s degree in Nursing.
- Must have at least (1) year of experience as an Infusion nurse at CCI.
- Must be BLS certified.
- Licensed by the Alabama Board of Nursing.

Required for continued employment:
- Attendance recommended at yearly workshop provided by CCI.
- Attendance at 75% of staff meetings provided by CCI.
- Participation recommended in professional development through organizations such as ONS and ONNA.
- Maintain appropriate CEUs.
Working conditions
This position works in the infusion/patient care department of a busy oncology/hematology clinic. This person will have direct contact with patients on a regular basis.
Physical requirements
This position requires that the employee be able to stand and walk for up to eight hours a day on most days. This position also requires that the employee be able to lift at least fifty pounds in order to assist patients when necessary.
Direct reports
This position is a supervisory position and assists the Nurse Admin Manager in supervision of the nursing team within their assigned department.
